Standards & Technologies

To support modern research data management, Coscine relies on established standards and forward-looking technologies. The integration of object storage based on S3 (Simple Storage System) and an advanced database architecture for metadata form the basis for the preservation of research data and compliance with the FAIR principles. For example, SHACL (Shapes Constraint Language) application profiles enable structural validation of RDF-(Resource Description Framework) graphs.

By leveraging established technologies such as the REST-API (Representational State Transfer - Application Programming Interface) and ElasticSearch, Coscine can also be integrated into the automation of local processes and supports cross-source search for data. Using the REST API, it is possible to automatically ingest data and metadata from local systems. Coscine thus forms the basis for the development of complex process-supporting services.
